SuperDads: Matt Yawn and Trey Simms

For Matt Yawn and Trey Simms coaching the boys on the Daphne Middle School soccer team is about much more than the score of the game. Matt has always believed that being a good father and mentor means more than just providing for his family. It’s about building relationships, teaching values, and being a constant source of support. As an Insurance Broker at Bass Underwriters for over 20 years, he had seen firsthand how vital relationships are in both his professional and personal life. 

Matt’s wife, Jill, and their two children, Parker and Keira, bring immense joy and purpose to his life. Parker, an avid fisherman and soccer player, and Keira, a creative soul who loves nature, are his pride and joy. “My kids know they can tell me anything, at any time, and not be judged,” Matt explains. “I want them to always feel supported and loved, and to know that the only limitations in life are the ones that they allow.”

Matt’s dedication to his family extends into his role as a coach for young athletes. He sees coaching as a way to instill the values of selflessness and teamwork in the next generation. “The world is a different place than when I was a kid,” Matt observes. “Young people are surrounded by professional athletes and influencers who self-glorify for ‘likes’ and attention. But the core tenants of team sports have remained consistent. A true team requires service before self.”
